The foundation of Signature Custom Woodwork Made in America was laid long before the first spice rack came off our bench. It began in the early 1900s, when Doug Speer’s great-grandfather built farm tables and cabinets by lantern light in a small Pennsylvania workshop using only hand tools and grit. Each generation since then picked up where the last left off — chisels, planes, and patience passed down like family secrets. Woodworking wasn’t just a trade; it was a way of life. A source of pride. A mark of manhood. And above all, a means to provide something lasting.

Our small shop in the Midlands of South Carolina may be powered by more modern tools, but the soul of our work remains unchanged — slow, deliberate, and deeply personal. We don’t follow trends. We follow grain lines, hand-feel, and intuition honed by decades of hands-on experience. After serving in law enforcement proudly answering the call of duty, Doug returned to his woodworking roots — bringing along not only his inherited skill set, but the same discipline, integrity, and attention to detail that marked his service. With the loving support and steady eye of his wife, Deb, what began as weekend work in the shop has grown into a full-time passion — a veteran-owned woodworking shop devoted to building pieces that stand the test of time.
